Nia M. began playing the viola at the age of 7, and holds a Bachelors of Music from the University of Oregon. Currently, she is perusing her Master’s in Viola Performance from MSU under the instruction of Detroit Symphony principal violist Eric Knowlin.

As a classically trained musician, Nia especially enjoys playing ensemble music and has performed in the pit for both operas and ballets. In addition she has a passion for soundtracks and film music, which has afforded her the opportunity to play at the Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. Studios in California. 

Nia is known for her enthusiasm when it comes to teaching, and believes in the transformative power a music education can offer. Nia is the eldest of four siblings, and outside of music she greatly enjoys reading, photography, and videogames.

Peter K. has been playing violin since 2001 and has a bachelor's degree from Oakland University and a master’s degree from Michigan State University. He teaches Piano, Violin, and Viola at Okemos Music Academy. Peter has performed with many orchestras around Michigan, including the Saginaw, Midland, Oakland, Warren, and Alma Symphonies. He has led large classes in middle and elementary schools for fifteen years. In addition, he teaches throughout Michigan as a private instructor. Peter also frequently performs with a bluegrass band based out of Flint.
